On March 5, 2016, Walden Family Services will receive a check for $2,500 from the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) San Diego at the association’s 24th Annual Trade Show Saturday, March 5th in Wyland Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds 9a-2pm.

The funds represent the launch of the PHCC’s Copper for Kids program in San Diego County. Copper for Kids recycles excess copper materials and uses the funds to benefit nonprofit organizations that assist foster children in in making successful transitions to adulthood.

“We greatly appreciate all the PHCC members who raised funds through Copper for Kids to benefit children and youth in the foster care system,” said Teresa Stivers, CEO of Walden Family Services, a local foster care, adoption, and youth services agency. “Through this generosity and outreach, children build lifelong relationships with foster and adoptive families, and young people exit foster care prepared for college, career, and community life.”

“PHCC contractors are environmentally conscious and most recycle as standard business practice. They now have an additional realized benefit of supporting children in our community,” said Connie Stevenson, Board Chair of PHCC of San Diego.

Funds that are raised through the San Diego Copper for Kids program supports local community organizations committed to the welfare of foster children. “By connecting children with their forever families, they can reach their full potential and break the cycle of foster care,” said Stevenson.

According to, San Diego County has nearly 3,500 children in the Foster Care System. Research shows that children who exit foster care without a family or strong support network are less likely to graduate from high school, and more likely to become pregnant before age 21, incarcerated, or homeless.

Contractors interested in participating in Copper for Kids should contact the PHCC office for more information. Every $5,000 raised helps to place a child in a new home.

Attendance at the 24th Annual Trade Show is free. Visit for more information.
