CAState Presidents Message

June 27, 2014

Greetings to the PHCC of California!

I’m excited to get started with all the things we would like to get accomplished on behalf of our state membership this year. We have a great Board of Directors and Executive Vice President, and I believe in being transparent and expressing my agenda up front.

I believe we can raise the bar through journeyman certification for plumbers, and we would like to take that message to our state as well. Our Government Affairs committee and myself have already reached out to local association leadership and have received enough positive feedback to warrant bringing this to you, our members.  We will be sending out a survey to all our PHCC of California members shortly, and would appreciate your response regarding committing to the discovery process of Journeyman Licensing requirements.

Within our industry, education should be at the forefront of our agenda. I would like to emphasize that one of the things that this PHCC provides and separates us as a membership organization is the training and education that each chapter provides along with our state office.  We offer Federally registered apprenticeship programs across the entire state of California, and State registered apprenticeship in 47 Northern California counties.  Federal & State Registration means that every PHCC training program across the state meets Federal & State guidelines and apprenticeship standards.  This is truly something to be proud of.

I would strongly encourage each business owner to seriously consider taking advantage of the four year programs that are offered for your apprentices and journeyman as well as the many year round classes that are provided. Today’s consumer is savvier then ever and we set the professional standard for our companies by providing the best service possible.  Taking advantage of an association that provides so many benefits can only help grow your company.

In closing please contact your local chapter and ask them about the opportunities, schedules, and dates for class schedules. I am looking forward to a great year and being a part of us growing stronger as an association. Your membership and input is very important to us. We are striving to make our industry better, and your participation in our great association is vital.

Sincerely,

Mike Barker, President
